Slammin'

On the plane back from Yellowstone last month, a plan began to take shape to return as soon as I could catch each of the native trout of Wyoming, aka the Cutt Slam.

Historically Wyoming was home to six native cutthroat species. Today five remain...Yellowstone, Colorado, Snake River, Bonneville, and Westslope (Westslope cutts are not part of the slam).

Several states now boast their own slams, encouraging anglers to get out and pursue these native gems. If we don't know about and value them, we aren't as likely to protect them.  But wait, there's more!

Enter the Western Native Trout Challenge. Western Native Trout Initiative (WNTI) hosts this 12 state, 18 species slam that anglers can complete at their own pace. Just register, then take photos of your catch and submit for your certificate and medallion (there are 3 levels). Sounds like fun to me!
